Beauty and the Beast: Embracing the Shadow
|
The Fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast is a story of transformation. The Beast is horrific, ugly and frightening but lonely, sad and gentle in his deepest nature. Beauty is sweet and lovely but unaware of her depths. As the story unfolds both undergo an initiation: the Beast surrenders to his vulnerability and allows Beauty free choice; Beauty courageously leaves her father’s house and is moved to tenderness and love when the Beast despairs. Their union symbolises the blending of fierceness and gentleness, power and sensitivity.
